Pre-patch Sly 2 vs Patched Sly 2Link to section: Pre-patch Sly 2 vs Patched Sly 2
not a complete list but close enough
- Pre-patch = NTSC / PAL / KOR PS2 (and related versions i.e. PS5, BCPS3)
- Patched = JPN PS2 (and related versions i.e. PS5, BCPS3) / PS3 Remaster
Episode 1: No notable differences.
Episode 2: No notable differences, though PS3 has the Bottle Crash route which does not work on any PS2 version.
Episode 3: Leading Rajan - Melon skip works differently (it's a bit tighter due to bomb-holding working differently). To remedy, you simply have to time pulling out the bomb with the Circle input.
Episode 4: General: Platforms are added to the Crystal Ball area in case the nearby pole doesn't load on Patched. Eavesdrop: There might be something funky with cart proxies between individual PS2 versions and the PS3 version but that might be kinda subjective.
Episode 5: General: The paraglider can instantly close. This means its impossible to Paraglider Proxy (Ghost Capture), and it also means you are completely uncapped when it comes to spamming the paraglider. Kidnap the General: The TNT CSS is much more lenient to hit and, without Atlas Strength, can be done much easier. Operation High Road: The Neyla chase can be entirely skipped on pre-patch. This is completely patched on JPN PS2 and Neyla has to pass certain checkpoints before hitting the end.
Episode 6: No notable differences, I've heard Spice in the Sky CSS is a bit weirder/different on Pre-patch but I'm unsure.
Episode 7: Laser Redirection: The paraglider can instantly close. This means you cannot clip through the vent to the lever immediately on Pre-patch as it requires paraglider clipping Thermal Ride: Same reason as above, its impossible to Paraglider Proxy (either via Watermill or via Mapiotho's proxy). It also generally means you are completely uncapped when it comes to spamming the paraglider. Operation Canada Games: Eggskip can be done for free. It's not faster to do the free method, but it's very useful in a backup setting. Simply break the egg and spam Triangle.
Episode 8: General: The input limit is significantly higher on Pre-patch, meaning in theory the Pounce Chains are much more spammable. Blimp HQ Recon: Pre-patch can't do the first CSS since the hub has no insta-kill planes. Can't skip the long cutscene by resetting the game after finishing Blimp HQ either as that will softlock the game, so you have to watch the full cutscene. Charged TNT Run: Pre-patch can't do the CSS since the hub has no insta-kill planes. Mega-Jump Job: Pre-patch can't do the CSS since the hub has no insta-kill planes.
